NBA Basketball Preview, The Sports Network, Cavaliers visit the Windy City
(Sports Network) - LeBron James is coming off one of the best performances in his career, and will lead the Cleveland Cavaliers once again in the finale of a two-game road trip against the Chicago Bulls tonight at the United Center.
James recorded 50 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists in Wednesday's 119-105 victory over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. The MVP candidate shot 16-of-30 from the floor, including a 7-of-13 clip from beyond the arc, in his second 50-point game this season. James, who dropped 51 points in a win over Memphis on January 15 at FedExForum, became the first player with at least 50 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds in a game since Kareem Abdul- Jabbar turned the trick on January 19, 1975.
Damon Jones added 15 points off the bench, while Devin Brown chipped in 14 points for the Cavaliers, who have won three straight and six of their last eight games overall. Cleveland also ended a two-game slide on the road and improved to 16-16 away from Quicken Loans Arena in 2007-08.
The Bulls will wrap up a short two-game homestand on Thursday and own a 13-15 record in the Windy City this season.
Chicago ended a two-game losing streak with a 112-97 win over the Memphis Grizzlies in the opener of the homestand on Tuesday. Drew Gooden scored 21 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and blocked three shots to lead Chicago, which has won three of its last four games as the host.
Luol Deng also poured in 21 points and pulled down nine boards, while Andres Nocioni tallied 20 points in a winning effort. After tonight's contest, the Bulls will hit the road for two games at Boston and Detroit. On the injury front for Chicago, guard Thabo Sefolosha (groin) is doubtful for tonight's game against Cleveland.
Thursday's game between Central Division rivals is the second of four matchups this season. The Cavaliers recently recorded a 95-86 win over Chicago on March 2 at Quicken Loans Arena, as James scored 37 points to lead the way.
Cleveland has won two straight, seven of nine and 10 of the last 14 meetings. It has also won three of its last four contests at the United Center.
